What to Expect

Join us on Sunday at 10:00 am

This is a new building for us, so we will likely be working out how to use the space over the coming months. Adjusting and rearranging are likely to be a part of our experience together for awhile!
See something that we missed that would aid in inclusion and accessibility? We welcome input that makes us a safer, more welcoming environment for all.
As an Open and Affirming congregation we believe that everyone is a beloved child of God. You are welcome here.

Newcomers are always Welcome!

Wichita UCC welcomes you as we strive to build a safe, accessible, and loving community of faith. As an Open & Affirming church, we welcome all individuals to join this community as full and equal partners in our journey of faith and understanding. We know that visiting a new church can be intimidating. Our hope is that we make you feel welcome without overwhelming you!

Building Layout & Accessibility

On Sunday mornings, we will enter the building using the double glass doors. There is a ramp and automatic door openers for your convenience.

When you enter the building, Fellowship Hall is directly in front of you. This is where we will gather for fellowship after the service. There are accessible restrooms in Fellowship Hall on the east side of the room. We welcome everyone to use the restroom that best aligns with their gender identity.

To enter the sanctuary from the front doors, turn to the right. The sanctuary is through the double wooden doors. There will likely be ushers standing outside the doors to greet you and answer questions before the service. We would be happy to remove a chair for you if you have a preferred place to sit and do not need the provided chair.

Sunday Worship

Worship is one way that we practice living into our faith as a community. We join in music, singing, prayer, sacred readings, and preaching in order that we might reaffirm and ground our work and service as a community after the Way of Jesus. We encourage people to ask questions and challenge their own understandings as we imagine together how we can better be the church in our world.

Everyone is welcome to join in this journey, and to bring together our varied expressions of faith to create a beautiful and meaningful service for all. We gather together every Sunday at 10:00am. After the worship service, all are invited to gather in Fellowship Hall for coffee, snacks, and fellowship. We hope that you will join us!

Communion is usually celebrated once a month. We celebrate an open table where all are welcome at God’s table. It is a meal of invitation for anyone just as they are and as they arrive. That includes both young and old, long-time members and newcomers, queer and gender non-conforming, professing Christians, those with big unanswered questions, and those for whom church and communion is brand new. Basically, for anyone who believes that by eating together we might encounter a truly divine presence among us – you belong at this table.

We strive for a variety of musical expression at Wichita UCC. We enjoy both traditional and contemporary hymns, and welcome participation from all musicians. It is important that the words we sing together be gender expansive, support worship in thematic and varied ways, and be theologically progressive. If you sing or play an instrument and would like to share your talents, let us know! We are welcome the opportunity to explore more musical styles and influences into our services.
